Beach combing CAL 1

While making the SunStar CAL, I came upon an other lovely blanket CAL to make. This is the Beachcombing CAL from Eleonara Tully. Her website is named https://coastalcrochet.com/

The center figure

The Beachcombing CAL is based upon the coastal adventures Tully makes. All her findings on the beach are assimilated in the blanket. Furthermore it is an joyful adventure to make this blanket. Such lovely colors and variation in textures.

I was at once tempted to do the CAL myself and with enough time on my hand in this Corona era, it was fast done. The used yarn is Scheepjes Colour Crafter, but in my stash boxes, I had not the right colors of this yarn and the yarn was reserved for an other project. So I looked into my Stylecraft special DK stash box and found at least a few skeins with basic colors that could be used. The remaining skeins I ordered. Because it took some time for my yarn to arrive, I also started with an other lovely project, the Fruit & Garden CAL. By ordering I could also try a new color; clementine :).

Here is a list of all mine picked colors;
A. lemon – light yellow
B. mushroom or lavender- grey lilac
C. cream – white
D. turquoise – blue
E. aspen – green blue
F. spring green- green
G.clementine – orange
H. spearmint – light green blue
I, aster – blue purple
J. cloud blue – light blue

After arriving of my order, I started with part 1 of the CAL. I think the figure in the center looks like a jellyfish. In my country they wash often ashore and you can find them whenever visiting a sandy beach. Maybe they also wash ashore on the stony beaches of England. But in the video and blog they refer to the stones, lime and chalk of her stony beach.

The crochet is not very difficult, but for a newby in crochet, I recommend watching the video’s or foto’s about the making of the squares and rounds. The blog and pattern is beautiful illustrated. Watching these pictures gives you also the feeling of a stony English beach.

The Cal is in English and U.S terms, although the foto’s and video’s are in English terms, The blogs about the parts come every week, and they are very long and nice illustrated with many examples.

In this first panel there are also popcorn stitches, front- and backpost stitches and edges with crab stitches. All ten colors are used. Counting your stitches is also very important.

Sometimes in projects the large dc rounds are going to bobble, therefore I work mostly these rounds with a smaller hook. like I did with the last cream colored rounds of the part 1 panel. Your fabric comes more tight.

This first part promised a nice, colorful and interesting blanket. I hope you enjoyed my blog and also gives this lovely blanket a try, Alice
