When I started with crochet in 2012, I was first inspired to make amigurumi. And my first design was a little bird. I made several birdies to test the pattern. Now 6 year later i have translated the pattern in dutch, And to do so I made more birdies. It was again a fun project.
A little bird cost only a few hours to make. Most time consuming things are sewing the little parts to each other and embroidering the bird.
Threads have to be carefully finished off and there are a few tricks that can make the bird sturdy. So the wing threads are pierced through the body to a place on the back, then firmly knotted and put away in the body. Pulling the body fabric a bit up will do the trick. Remember a child will play with the bird and pull hard on the parts, you don’t want these parts to come loose.

My birdie pattern in English is to find in the pattern part of my website under little things

Much fun making birds, Elzeblaadje
It is almost Eastern and it is a custom in the Netherlands to put some branches in a vase and decorate them with little figurines and eggs. You can make your own figurines or little things to decorate a branch. I have 2 patterns added on my page little things. One pattern is a basic pattern of a bird and the other is a basic pattern of a fish. You can variegate in color and so on the pattern to make your own birdies or fishes. They look nice in a branch. On the picture I made a little crow to please my husband and a kind of parrot bird, made with thin yarn and small hook.
The pattern page of the birds and fish is to be found under pattern and so >>> little things in the main menu.
The pattern of my little friends, the birdies, is now online. You can find it in the chapter Patterns and so. Enjoy it. Maybe it is nice and in time to make some Christmas decorations using the pattern. I hope you share your pictures.
After making so many Robins, I had to try something else with the same pattern. One unused ball of cotton inspired me to this little fellow on the side of my post. The yarn I am using is called softfun and it is nice and soft and thicker than my normal yarn, but it is also extensible. This is not a nice property for amigurumis. So I think the bird had a very convex body, But maybe some little girl will like it.
Well, I am still crocheting and have lot of ideas. For instance this hat, I want to dress it up with some flowers and leaves, and of course one of the small robins. I want to use it for an event in september. Meanwhile the Cal is not going well. The cactus is not going to be ready this weekend. Something tells me it is because I am making all kind of other things, like robins for the upcoming event.
I am very occupied with the little birds. In my yarn shop, I encountered a nice variegated yarn, suitable for a very small hook. I couldn’t resist the yarn and I made my firsts very little bird. My husband dislikes crows, with their black eyes. He thinks the crows are always looking at him. So I made him a little crow to hang on his bicycle. The crow turned out to be a very sweet birdie. On the picture You can see both birds flying together.
Sunday I got a nice bird, the first bird made from my pattern by Ellen from Umami gurumi. Isn’t it a sweet little thing?
