Christmas Elves by Alan Dart

I fell in love with the tree elves of Alan Dart. The tree trimmers of Alan Dart are very small dollies, they will not take many hours to make. It is knitting, but a experienced crocheter will make them also in no time at all just by looking at them. But I like knitting and small pieces don’t make me afraid. so I made two Elves the last weeks.

The making of the elves from the little pieces is a bit complex. I had problems with the mattress stitch, because the pieces are so little. But you can use other stitches as well. The used yarn is Phildar pronostic + and some small amounts of Scheepjes invicta and a little bit of golden yarn. The elves are knitted on needles 3.0 mm. The elves are about 20 cm high.

Because it is Christmas Time, I decorated the Elves with golden yarn. Furthermore I put some pipe cleaners in arms and legs and now they can sit and climb up and down the tree branches of my christmas tree.

Maybe I make some more tree climbers, Elzeblaadje

Baby Knittings

I like to knit sweaters and cardigans for very little children and babies. Last year I made some items from the klompelompe book. I made a beanie and a vest, called granddad’s vest from a ball of Stylecraft special DK named silver. The klompelompe designs are very easy patterns and they look great on babies and small children. I have also made a nice pink dress, a bolero and some more vests.

Knitting is a relaxing thing to do and you can combine it with some television series. If you haven’t tried it you should do one day.

Baby Link outfit

babylinkoutfi3A year ago I made this nice baby Link outfit. It was a gift for a newborn child. The hero Link is a figurine in the nintendo games of Zelda. While making, I didn’t knew if the baby would be a boy or a girl.  So I choose for the Link outfit, because it would fit both. It was a lot of fun making the clothes. And a great surprise as a baby shower gift.

Yesterday I was amazed with a picture of the little one in the Link outfit. And I remembered I hadn’t wrote about it on my blog, because it had to be a secret.

At the time of searching for a nice pattern, I found out, that  Joanna Rankin already made a baby link outfit. It was designed for an small baby of 3 months. I made the outfit for a baby of nine months or elder, for I liked the idea that the child would crawl in the outfit around the house.  So I had to adjust the design and the measurements.

The outfit consists of a baby trouser,  a cardigan that has closure onto the back, a pointed cap, a belt with buckle and sock booties. All is knitted on needles 4. For the belt and the boots I used a doll outfit pattern from Annette Heffords, named Alistair Wizard and for the cardigan, cap and trouser I used the pattern of The Legend of Baby Link by Joanna Rankin as an example.

The outfit was knitted on 2 needles 4, with Scheepjes Colour Crafter, in the colors Leiden and Franeker. This is a very soft acrylic yarn. The booties and arm sleeves were knitted with SMC Bravo, color Brown, a more sturdy acrylic yarn. The body of the cardigan is knitted in one piece with buttonholes on the back. The sleeves were knitted together and are sewed later on into the armpits. The belt was made with a special stitch combination so it will keep his form. Also the buckle is knitted. Because the buckle is a bit heavy, I had to pin it onto the cardigan. The booties were also knit on 2 needles and later on the seams were joined. The symbol of Link, the triforce is also knitted into the body

It was really a fun project and I am happy the outfit is used. I have no notes found about the outfit, so if you want to make the outfit, you have to use your own imagination. the  pictures and the patterns of Joanna Rankin and Annette Heffords

Purple gloves

gloves2My neighbor asked me to make her a pair of warm gloves and they had to be purple. It was a challenge to make them. First they had to match a favorite scarf, but purple is a difficult color. So I lend the scarf and went to a wool shop. The lady in the shop advised me to buy  two different kinds of yarns, that matched the scarf. At home me and my neighbor Ana choose the  alpaca yarn. Then I had to find a pattern that matched the yarn. I also didn’t want to knit on four needles or circulair needles. But most patterns are knitted in the round. Luckily my Sister in Law found me a sirdar pattern of gloves knitted with two needles and with the same size my yarn needed. So I started knitting and within a week the gloves were ready. Afterwards a few things could be better. Like the thumb and the fingertips, but that is for a second pair of gloves. For more details visit my ravelry page!

Knit fashion for kids

Last weeks I was very busy with knitting. From my needles came a little bolero for my niece, she is 9 years old and loves to dance. I was inspired by te knitwear of Katie Jones and made a bolero in her style. The bolero is knit with needles 4 mm and with Stylecraft special dk (total 1 skein) and it is all knit with cables and different stitches, I like the puff stitches. Some parts are crocheted, arm holes and front band. The colors were raspberry, storm blue, citron, white and turquoise. No pattern is available. My niece was very glad with the bolero gift.

Dress, bolero and top

The last 2 weeks I have been knitting on several projects from the Klomplompe book. I made from the patterns in the book a summer-dress, a bolero and top for a 2 year old little girl. First I made the summer-dress. I used Stylecraft special DK color apricot. The skirt seemed a bit dull, so I knitted a band of ajour in it. It looks a bit like Butterflies. The top of the dress is also in ajour. I knitted it 2 times because The first time the top was too small. second time I used a larger needle by the cast off and a few stitches more. The result was now better. I also made a closure or placket on the backside of the dress. The dress was finished wbolero1ith wooden flower buttons

The bolero was in color cream an a bit difficult to make. I didn’t understand the chart at first and made a mess of the first pattern. I pulled it out and started all over. Whenever I did understand the pattern it was easy to go, just  counting the stitches every time did it.

The top was made from the remnants of the yarn. I made a flat back, with no flaps, crocheted an edge and made with the knitty mouse a cord to put through the edge. The ajour pattern was already used in the bolero, so I encountered no problems this time. I used in total 2 balls, but you have to buy 3 balls whenever using different colors.

Polarbear sweater

In december I made this nice sweater as a present for a very little boy. It is size 1 year and is knitted with 2 colors Stylecraft Special DK , waterfall and white. On the front size i also knitted two polar bears. I like to knit and alternate it with a crochet project. Such a little sweater is a fun project to make. The pattern’s size can be found on the Jessica Tromp website. The closure is on one of the shoulders.polarbearsweater2
