After 3 months I have finished the Sophie’s Universe Blanket and Cal. I have made my own kind of extension, with berries, leaves, flowers and mushrooms. I also made my own border, Elzeblaadjes Elegant Edge. It was a lot of work but very fascinating to do. Such a nice design gives lots of fun while crocheting. Thank Dedri for making this possible. I hope my blanket inspires other crafters to make there own Sophie’s Universe.
It was very nice to make this square and I liked it so much I didn’t want to go on to the next steps and making the Sophie Universe into a blanket. I hesitated but after ordering some more acrylic I joined the group of crafters who are making the Sophie Universe. I still want some day to make this part again. for it is very nice.
At this moment in the making of the Universe I had to choose also my colors. At first I took what I had in stash and looked nice in combination with the other colors, but in the making of the garden colors begun to repeat. Although there are more colors in my stash I used only fifteen or so for the making of the Sophie Universe. Fifteen is a lot but they look very nice in combination with each other.
The used colors are: white, pink, light lavender, lavender, purple, orange, red, dark red, blue, petrol, light yellow and sunshine, grass green and dark green, sand. On my Ravelry page more information in the project section of the used yarn and colors.
I was not satisfied with my first panel, so I pulled it out and started all over again. Now the panel turned out to be smaller and more conform the design. I also started to make the other panels as well and payed attention for making them in the same size. I have also added a bright blue color, that I missed in the first panel. I still have two panels to finish, but I am more satisfied than before. The picture isn’t quit good, the colors are in real brighter. I am surprised that we started the CAL with this panel, It gives a lot of discussion and is far more difficult to make. Maybe we first had to make some swatches to test our tension and the fabric. It also takes a lot of yarn. With the blue color I used half a ball of yarn on 4 panels
My piece of work grows daily. Here a peep on the project. You can see that I have already made a multitude of granny;s. I sew them as soon as a row is ready to the basic piece.
My daughter calls it a prison blanket. Because in a television program, she is watching, many a bed is covered by granny’s.
