My Frida’s Flowers Blanket is finished. Yesterday I hooked the last stitches and cut the last threads of the edge. And so there came an end to this Cal. The result is beautiful.
I made the edge with the colors of the background: midnight, plum, raspberry and petrol. The seams between the panels are made in raspberry (Mauve). It took almost a half skein to make the seams. There were a lot of threads to finish so it took quit a while before i was ready, but now I am done and ready to start a new project.
All panels of the Frida’s Flowers Cal are now made! I just have finished the 5 hexagons of part 7, Frida’s Bouquet. Now I have to assemble all pieces in a superb blanket. But first I have to eliminate all loose threads of the remaining 10 pieces. this gives lot of work to do.
Part 7 is a mix of all other panels, a little flower on top, leaves, red petals and a background piece, of yellow and white. The flower is the cosmos flower of the first piece. It is just a little flower on top of a bigger flower, surrounded with more yellow and white flowers, the bouquet.
This time there were 5 pieces to make. I made the little flowers in different colors, first lime and soft peach in two flowers and meadow and white in two others and lime and white in the last flower (this will be the centerpiece). The leaves get the same colors as the top flowers. The second row of the leaves was the most difficult to make, counting my stitches wouldn’t help, I always missed one. Only missing a stitch doesn’t matter for the next rounds. I found also the yellow color of round 9 a bit to much yellow. And then I forgot to make the blue bullion stitches, but I have corrected that later. Only on the pictures they are still absent.
Taking stock of all the hexagons, I concluded that a few colors were used very minimal, like copper and raspberry. Also I have used only 1,5 skein of midnight. So there is 1,5 skein left for the edging.
If you are going to start the blanket later on, it is a good idea to look into my Ravelry account for the exact length and weight of yarn I used. Maybe you have some leftover yarn that will replace the minimal colors copper and raspberry.
The crocheted skull cap on my blog is very popular. There are many hits and downloads. Mostly people find my pattern on Ravelry. Only I don’t know of the cap is really made and wear. Therefore I would ask you down-loaders, if you want to send me a picture or post it on Ravelry in the projects section if you have made the cap. I am very curious if adding a free pattern is appreciated.
A few weeks ago I could lend a porcelain head, so now I can take a much better picture of the skull caps and of the caps and hats in my stash. Doesn’t it looks fine? Soon more pictures of hats and caps.
Yesterday I finally posted my cap with skulls pattern on Ravelry, Soon it will be winter and Halloween and than a cap will be nice to have. The pattern is based upon the lost souls skull shawl from Maryetta Roy. The cap is made in the same manner as the skull gauntlets. So with cap, mittens and shawl you are ready for Halloween and wintertime. The Skull gauntlets are very nice in the cold season when you are typing on your computer. I have made several pair and given them to sister, niece and daughter, and all were happy with them. Crocheting cost you an evening or two hours and all kinds of yarn can be used. I made them from merino and they were extremely warn and comfortable. The cap is also fast to crochet. Don’t crochet the pitch chain to tight and all will go well. The patterns are in the pattern section of the website, see the menu above this post.
How about my mezzaluna shawl? Still not ready and waiting in a bag to finish. I have a picture of the shawl from a month of so ago. You can see it turned out to be better than I thought, But it stays complicated, I am planning to finish the last rounds soon. Also I have to crochet the bubble edge. But for now it stays in its bag.
It is nice to knit again. I was forgotten how knitting helps to keep the stress away. It is a peaceful activity and it is also very nice to see the stitches grow and grow till a little garment has formed. For I knit little pieces of clothing for a doll. And I like what I am doing, it gives me lots of inspiration. The doll will get a whole wardrobe full of little costumes to wear .
Knitting is nice, and it is a challenge to knit each costume and not crochet it. Although I made some parts and pieces in crochet. For some things are better done in crochet and others better in knitting.
I think you are all very curious what keeps me away from crochet, but you have to be patient, there are still a lots of threads to clean away, seams to sew, buttons to sew on and so on. I am also still working on a small but necessary garment piece. And there have to be some shoes or socks. So I hope you don’t mind, I have nothing to show you right now. But I am still working the needles and hook.
Some weeks ago I had a crochet flow and made this nice frog together with some mice. Doesn’t he look like Frog from Frog and fiends? But when you kiss a frog with a crown, like this one, you can be surprised by what next happens. Maybe he becomes a prince.
The frog is made from thin cotton yarn, but still 20 cm high. This because of his long legs. I wanted the frog to be a bit natural. The legs have toes, long toes.
Because of his likeness with the character from frog and Friends, I gave him a nice swimming trouser and because it is already chilly in here, a long red scarf. The crochet flow faded away, other wise I should make all his friends, or I will do it some other time. For now he is on his own.
